Daniel Tiger for Parents App Helps Your Child Learn Life’s Little Lessons
Learning isn’t just about letters and numbers! It’s about being able to listen, follow directions, wait for a turn, and feel confident enough to try. These important abilities are called “social-emotional” skills, and they help children get along with others and manage their feelings.
Children aren’t born knowing these skills, they have to learn them. And little by little, with the help of caring adults, children can learn them! In fact, the songs in Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood were created just for this purpose – to help children learn many of these core social-emotional skills.
When you simply talk with and listen to your child, sing songs, watch videos, or take pictures, you’re helping them work on learning these essential life skills. Developing these abilities starts in childhood, but we continue to work on understanding our feelings and getting along with others throughout the rest of our lives.
PBS KIDS and Fred Rogers Productions created the Daniel Tiger for Parents app to give parents, grandparents, caregivers, and teachers a way to help children learn these core social-emotional skills. Designed with busy parents in mind, this free app is simple, educational, and entertaining for caregivers and kids alike, and contains helpful hints for parents about the skills children need to be ready for school and life.
Available in English and Spanish, the app features 36 of the most popular songs and over 100 videos from the series for children to sing along with their friend and neighbor, Daniel Tiger. Topics include feelings, self-control, responsibility, potty training, and more. There’s a perfect song for every moment and learning experience, and the app gives you the opportunity to share all those special moments with your child. It also features over 90 conversation starters and parenting tips with practical ways to use the songs every day, along with custom picture frames for each song to take photos, capture moments, and share with friends and family.
Daniel Tiger for Parents is based on Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, produced by Fred Rogers Productions and airing daily on PBS KIDS. For decades, Fred Rogers and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood helped generations of parents and children navigate the ups and downs of everyday life. Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and this app extend that philosophy to support and empower parents and caregivers with confidence in their ability to help their children learn important social and emotional skills. According to Common Sense Media, “…this app is like having a preschool whisperer right in your phone – for free."
We hope you and your child will have fun using the Daniel Tiger for Parents app together. Spending time with your child, simply talking and listening, is one of the most important ways to show that you care!
